On Saturday morning, March 14th, at 11:00 A.M., a Traditional Latin Mass (low Mass) will be offered at St. Felix Church for relief from the pandemic corona virus. The celebrant is Fr. Peter Van Lieshout, pastor of St. Peter’s Parish. The address is 12 Hibbard Avenue, Clifton Springs, NY, 14432, just a few blocks off Route 96 (Thruway exit 43)
The Mass will be the votive Mass designed for times of pestilence, formally entitled the “Missa Pro Vitanda Mortalitate vel Tempore Pestilentiae.” Obviously (and thankfully) this is a Mass that is rarely celebrated. It is reasonable to think that many Catholics in past times lived their entire lives without ever attending this particular liturgy. Now is the time, the urgent time, to beseech the Creator for deliverance. We can easily imagine that this is also the same Mass which would have been celebrated during past crises, such as the bubonic plague, and perhaps — in more recent times — even the Spanish Flu of 1918.
