Room in your heart for the Latin Mass?

December 5th, 2019, Promulgated by Diane Harris

Looking for something special to do during Advent?

Have the heart to add some Latin Mass attendance for the season?

Every Friday at 8AM a Latin Low Mass is celebrated by Fr. Peter Mottola at St. John the Evangelist Church in Spencerport, NY.

Fr. Anthony Amato will be celebrating a Latin Mass on First Friday, Dec. 6th, at 8:30 AM at St.  Patrick’s in Macedon (52 W Main St, Macedon).

On First Saturdays, Fr. Mottola also celebrates a 9AM Missa Cantata (sung Latin Mass). In Advent, this will be on Dec. 7th.

Fr. Anthony Amato will celebrate an 8:00 AM Latin Mass at St. Jerome in East Rochester (Rosary Devotions at 7:30AM) on Dec. 7th.

Also on First Saturday (Dec. 7th) Fr. Peter Van Lieshout will celebrate a 10AM Latin Low Mass at St. Dominic Church in Shortsville, NY (exit 43 on the Thruway) on Feast of St. Ambrose.

On Saturday, December 14th, at 10AM at St. Dominic Church in Shortsville, Fr. Peter Van Lieshout will celebrate an Advent Votive Mass of Our Lady. The Mass will be a Latin High Mass (with a schola from St. Mary Canandaigua providing the chant).

On each of the four Sundays of Advent there will be Latin Mass (as for all other Sundays of the year as well) at 11:15 AM, celebrated by Fr. Dennis Bonsignore at St. Thomas the Apostle Church in Irondequoit, NY. The third Sunday of Advent (Gaudete Sunday) will be a High Mass.

A Solemn High Latin Mass will be offered at St. Thomas the Apostle Church in Irondequoit on Saturday, Dec. 21st, at 10:00 AM, on the Feast of St. Thomas the Apostle (as listed in the Roman Martyrology, prior to Vatican II change of Feast Day to July 3rd). Hospitality at Parish Center after Mass.

LATIN MIDNIGHT MASS and LATIN MASS on CHRISTMAS MORNING

Here is some really special news! It is hard enough to find a true Christmas Midnight Mass anywhere in NY. So many Masses are hours earlier than midnight, actually on Christmas Eve, and just called ‘midnight.’ But now, as an incredible celebratory end to Advent-2019, there is a Christmas Mass which will not only begin at midnight, but will be a Latin High Mass! It will be celebrated by Father Peter Van Lieshout at St. Felix Church in St. Peter’s Parish, in Clifton Springs, NY.

On Christmas Day, there will be a Latin High Mass celebrated by Fr. Dennis Bonsignore at 11:15AM at St. Thomas                 the Apostle Church in Irondequoit.

Is your parish (or any other you know of) offering a Latin Mass anytime during Advent or on Christmas

Please let us know and we’ll add to this post.

This is wonderful news! It is great to see more Latin Masses in the Diocese: and it is typical that these priests that are inclined that way are also inclined to say the N.O. Mass more reverently as well.

On an additional note: it is refreshing to know that yet another church in the Diocese has the tabernacle placed more appropriately, and in a place of honor.

I went to St. Felix for a while as a teenager, and even though I was not well-versed in the faith back then, I thought there was something odd and not right about the presider’s bench being “up at the top” and front & center. Fortunately, now Our Lord in the Holy Eucharist is front & center in one more church in the Diocese. May this continue in more churches!

The Tridentine Latin Mass at St. Thomas the Apostle on Gaudete Sunday,
    December 15th, is a High Mass (11:15am).

And I believe the TLM on Christmas Day at 11:15am at St. Thomas the Apostle
    is also a High Mass.

The nice thing about Jesus and to His advantage, is that He is present in both rites and does not prefer one over the other.

  4. Abaccio says:

Will the Midnight Mass be a sung Mass in some form or a Low Mass?

  5. Mary-Kathleen says:

Today’s Bulletin states that the TLM on Christmas at 11:15am in St. Thomas the Apostle Church is a High Mass 🙂

So the Latin Mass Community at St. Thomas the Apostle Church are celebrating three High Masses this Advent and Christmas Season:

Sunday December 15 at 11:15am for Gaudete Sunday (Third Sunday of Advent)
Saturday December 21 at 10am for the Feast of St. Thomas the Apostle
Wednesday December 25 at 11:15am for Christmas

  6. Diane Harris says:

@ Abaccio — Christmas Midnight Mass will be a High Mass. I fixed the post. Thank you for calling it to my attention.

Father Anthony Amato will be offering a Latin Mass on the Holy Day of Obligation, New Year’s Day January 1st, at St. Patrick’s Church in Macedon, NY (Rte. 31)at 11:00 AM.

There will be a Latin Mass at St. Thomas the Apostle Church in Irondequoit, NY (St. Paul Blvd.) at 11:15 AM on New Year’s Day, offered by Fr. Dennis Bonsignore.

Also on New Year’s Day, Fr. Peter Van Lieshout will offer a Latin Mass at 5:30PM at St. Francis Parish in Phelps.

And there is a 10:00 AM Latin Mass on the First Saturday of January at St. Dominic’s in Shortsville (Rte 21) offered by Fr. Van Lieshout.

    Other additions are welcome.

    Specially scheduled Traditional Latin Masses:

We know of none at this time. Note that First Saturday has been moved to ‘regularly scheduled.’

    Regularly Scheduled Traditional Latin Masses:

NOTE: No Mass at St. John the Evangelist in Spencerport on Friday, January 24th due to Pro-Life March in Washington, DC.

An 11:15 AM TLM is scheduled for each Sunday Morning at St. Thomas the Apostle Church in Irondequoit (St. Paul Blvd), offered by Fr. Dennis Bonsignore.

On Friday mornings at 8:00 AM Fr. Peter Mottola celebrates a Traditional Latin Mass at St. John the Evangelist Church in Spencerport, NY.

Also, on First Saturdays, Fr. Mottola celebrates a Traditional Latin Mass at 9:00 AM at St. John’s in Spencerport.

Also, on First Saturdays, Fr. Peter Van Lieshout celebrates a 10AM Latin Mass at St. Dominic Church in St. Peter’s Parish, in Shortsville, NY.

    Do you know????:

Do you know of any other Traditional Latin Masses being celebrated in the Diocese of Rochester either on a regular basis or specially scheduled?
