Pain-Capable, Indeed.

Let this sink in: 14 Catholic Senators joined together yesterday to block a vote that would have prohibited abortions after 20 weeks. Cardinal Dolan explained that these abortions usually involve “brutally dismembering a defenseless unborn child, while also posing serious dangers to his or her mother.”

Their obstruction couldn’t be more extreme.

A total of 44 Senate Democrats and 2 Republicans blocked a vote yesterday on a bill that would have prohibited abortions after 20 weeks on children that feel pain in the womb. They did this despite a new poll which found that 63% of Americans favor restricting abortions after 20 weeks — including 56% of Democratic voters!

The Senators that stopped that bill from being passed, did not only went against Catholic moral teaching, albeit most major religion’s teaching, and did not represent Catholics, but they failed to represent the majority of Americans on this issue.
