If you pay property taxes, you contribute to your local public school which spends on average $20k per child per year in Monroe County.
If you give to your parish, you support the Diocesan school system whether or not your parish has a school.
This is what makes it especially hard financially for independent schools like St. John Bosco and Chesterton Academy. If you can help support them with a monthly donation you will be doing untold good for the next 
generation.
