The Fellowship of St. Alban, a local organization of former and present Anglicans aspiring to join the Catholic Church under Anglicanorum Coetibus, will soon be offering liturgies in the Diocese of Rochester. According to their homepage, the group approached the diocese and has been granted permission to worship at Church of the Good Shepherd in Henrietta. The group will meet for prayer each Sunday at 3 PM until Mr. John Cornelius is ordained and able to offer Mass according to the Anglican Use. This is truly excellent news for the Fellowship and the surrounding area. Hopefully Catholics in Henrietta, who have been subjected to lay homilies and pretend priestesses for years, will soon have another option for reverent worship.
Below is a video of the Anglican Use liturgy. You’ll notice that it’s quite similar to the Extraordinary Form, except that it’s offered in English.

There is a Traditional Anglican Communion parish in Webster, NY named Holy Cross Anglican church. Please pray for this community, that they will join their brothers in the Fellowship of St. Alban and return home to the Catholic Church.

Ah, this takes me back to the sweet Sunday liturgies of my childhood growing up Episcopalian. I love the Catholic Church but none of her liturgies stir my heart like those did. (After all, the English wrote the book on pageantry, right?) It wasn’t until just a few years ago that I went to a Latin mass at St. Stan’s and, reading the missal’s English translation pages, realized that it was nearly identical to the services from the 1960’s Episcopal church. How beautiful that Rochester will be home to an Ordinariate congregation.
This is wonderful news! God bless this work of Oneness. But I have two questions. Is it just a coincidence that this has happened so soon after the acceptance of Bishop Clark’s resignation? Is it within the rights of an Apostolic Administrator to confer?
I had met the previous pastor of Holy Cross, Father Ambuske, many years ago as his church was near our home. He had left the Catholic Church to become a priest and family man in the Anglican group. Perhaps his years of ministry have prepared his people to join us.
Question: will the liturgy in the Anglican Ordinariate be ad orientam or ad populum or depending on the parish priest? I have attended a couple of Anglican Masses in England that differed very little from our Novus Ordo Masses (in fact, I think the priest at one of the churches was using our Novus Ordo and not one the Book of Common Prayer versions – ummm, shall we say, without authorization!!). Will Ordinariate priests be allowed to use the Novus Ordo as well? And, is there a provision for an Anglican Use parish (or Ordinariate Parish) to be located in a local diocesan church with one of the Masses each Sunday in the Anglican form? It’ll be interesting to see how this develops!
And, given the close friendship between Benedict XVI and Rowan Williams, wouldn’t it be amazing if he were to “cross the Tiber”?
