You may consider a Godly Christmas season fully-commenced after you finish watching this video, produced by Philadelphia’s Opera Company, which goes into public places and sings (in full numbers) famous pieces of classical music. A nod of the miter to spontaneous outbursts of culture, especially when they proclaim that “the Lord God omnipotent reigneth.”

JESUS IS THE REASON FOR THE SEASON – ABOUT TIME !
I found it interesting that it had nothing to do with faith. The signs all refer to CULTURE. Of course we don’t know the hearts of these folks; however, just the reference to culture could indicate the faithless liking good music.
The DoR is gonna do something similar. A Chorus of Halle-Halle-Halle in Marketplace with an out-of-tune piano. You don’t wanna miss it!
The “Random Acts of Culture” is not a religiously-oriented thing. The same people earlier “crashed” an Italian festival in Philly with a rendition of the “Brindisi” from La Traviata. Rather, it’s sort of like a guerrilla arts-outreach program that surprises people in otherwise mundane settings with classical and jazz music–an attempt to bring high culture and the arts to the masses in creative ways.
And besides, the Hallelujah Chorus is more appropriate for Easter as it’s place in the Messiah coincides with the Resurrection. They probably chose it because it’s a piece that most choral singers have sung a million times, it’s recognizable, and showcases the organ really well.
It may not be intended to be overtly religious, but you’ve got to admit that it’s certainly not the typical religion-hating display of holiday frivolity. “Oh no! They said, ‘God’! What ever will we do?”
I vote we get a bunch of High-Mass-goers together and crash Eastview.
Ink – great idea!
Gen – very cool video!
This was so heartwarming!
And, if you don’t mind me asking….
what is Macy’s?
Yes, there is a larger world out there we forget about with people from other countries finding US sites. Macy’s is a large department store chain, mostly in large shopping centers like the one filmed.
