Amen to that. Unfortunately, a huge error has arisen that as long as the lyrics are theologically sound, scripturally based, etc., then virtually any accompanying music is acceptable. The Cardinal touched on that, but I’d love more Church leaderships to really hammer that home.
Honestly, I’d settle for lyrics that are “theologically sound, scripturally based, etc.” So often they “ain’t” even that!!!
You realize that these hymnals have a range of “stuff.” In a lot of cases, the people choosing the musical fare, are not even trained in what to look for. That is what I’ve noticed over the years. Get it done, regardless of the readings, current feasts etc. Can’t blame someone who is trying though.
