The annual tradition of home picnic Masses will continue once again this summer at St. John of Rochester (Fairport):
I got a kick out of this line: “This is a chance for Mass in a relaxed setting.” I didn’t know that worshiping our Lord in church was such a stressful event for people.
Also, nothing says reverence better than lawn chairs and hot dogs.

This is disturbing. Why does this parish feel the need to violate the norms of the church? Masses outside of the church were only meant for those instances when it is absolutely necessary, for instance utilizing Yankee stadium to host mass when the Pope is visiting. According to the ad, it meant ions that last summer they had about 200 people attend the ten home masses. With an average of twenty people per ‘home mass’ , would the church on Wickford Way in Fairport really not accommodate?
It’s too bad the people in the DOR have been “Railroaded” for 30 years
Unfortunately, liturgical “know how” in Rochester relies more on what looks cute than what is right.
