It was announced today at some Masses in Irondequoit that Fr. Morgan Rice, CSB, a Basilian priest ordained a year ago who has been serving the Christ the King/St. Thomas the Apostle/St. Salome cluster, will be remaining in Rochester for at least one more year. Fr. Rice was supposed to be called up to Toronto around the end of June, but he has been permitted to remain in Rochester for another year. He is a solid priest, and the people of the CTK/STA/SS cluster are truly blessed to have him (contrast that with the pastor for the cluster).
I wonder what, if any impact, this may have on Bishop Clark’s decision to close St. Thomas. The IPPG parishes could have quite a few priests this year.
Current priests in the IPPG parishes:
-Fr. Norm Tanck, CSB
-Fr. Joseph Trovato, CSB
-Fr. Morgan Rice, CSB
-Fr. Richard Beligotti
-Fr. Timothy Horan
-Fr. Thomas Erdle
-Fr. Joseph Rosse
-Fr. William Leone
-Fr. Peter Abas
-Fr. Walter Cushing
And the diocese dares to cite a priest shortage for closing parishes in Irondequoit?

Great news! Fr. Morgan Rice is such a blessing to our cluster.
Retired priests can serve as much or as little as they want. The DoR doesn’t count the retired priests in calculating the number of available priests in any given area.
Oh yeah, Happy Birthday to Fr. Cushing. 80 years old, 54 years as a priest!
