Diaconate Ordination – Part II

June 5th, 2010, Promulgated by Gen

Part 2 of a many-part series on the liturgical irregularities at Sacred Heart Cathedral.

I am certain that all of you have heard that absolutely atrocious setting of the Alleluia used by the DoR to celebrate feigned-diversity. You know, “Halle, Halle, Halle . . . .Looo – ooooo – yah.” Well, I bet you’ve never seen 50 priests and a bishop clapping to it, along with hordes of deacons and lay people.

I have much to say about this, but the video can sum it all up better than I can. Be sure to watch it full -screen – I shot in HD for you. You can even see Bishop Clark clapping in rhythm. Now isn’t that just the cherry on top of the liturgy sundae?

I quote my comments on yesterday's post:
"It is with great pain that, as a deacon, I have stopped going to the diaconal ordinations. The last time I went was after the renovation but before the new organ. The complete lack of kneeling during Mass, the singing of Halle Halle Loo OO Yuh to the beating of bogos and congas, the sanctuary being referred to as "the space" (come on, how about, at least "worship space"), are all too much. Now, the Presbyterianization is complete with a central organ in the space. A somewhat liberal priest from our area said disparagingly of the cathedral, "the organ is the tabernacle." At the last ordination, standing with the deacons in the transept, I could only see the choir in the Space and the pulpit. I could not see the altar or the bishop's chair. I agree with everything you said but I just can't stand coming back from an ordination upset."

    How long?

Halle-Halle-Halle, even offends my musical sensibilities, and my music taste is,umm…
    let's just say diverse! 🙂

  3. Bill B. says:

If I recall correctly, the Halle,Halle is from the Caribean (pardon my spelling)Catholics. We are borrowing from our neighboring cultures. It is ok, I presume to not like it; however, the manner of discord is a bit too irriting. Remember the alteration to Willie Shakespear…"Alls well that ends." It will as the new bishop closes the diocese down and merges it with Buffalo and Syracuse. Let's wait and see…Pray hard that it ends well…

Clarkbar usually claps along, as do most priests…the only priest at the confirmation i went to that DIDN'T clap was Fr Lynch, who exercised his trademark sneer

Once again, the DOR is still larger than a good number of dioceses across the nation, e.g. Ogdensburg.

Second, there is one thing about disliking Bishop Clark's policies, liturgical practices, etc. There is another to belittling him by calling him "Clarkbar". It's juvenile and offensive. If people want to be taken seriously on this blog, this kind of thing has to stop!

    For how long?

What difference does the size of the diocese make?

  8. Anonymous says:

The idea is that the diocese is shrinking so small in numbers that it will not be able to remain a stand alone diocese. I don't think that is going to happen very soon.

  9. Nerina says:

I kind of chuckled at "Clarkbar" so sue me. As for "being taken seriously," how about adopting a posting name? I can't keep track!

  10. Dave says:

I recently heard an excellent audiobook on Redmptionis Sacramentum in which the priest giving the talk sited the a good portion of abuses such as those going on in Clarkdom will be cured by death or retirement. The Lord will decide on the appropriate action. As was pointed out in a recent homily at OLOV…"There is nothing as pathetic as an aging liberal".

  11. I'd take a close look at the "Halle halle halle"'s origin. There have been a number of artifacts billed as from another culture which turned out to be baloney on closer inspection.
