Defending Truth and Tradition in the Roman Catholic Church

Novena of Prayer for Pope Benedict XVI

April 12th, 2010, Promulgated by Gen

I think we can rest assured that this prayer won’t be used too much in the Diocese of Rochester, so I have decided to post it here for your use and dissemination.

The initiative comes from the Knights of Columbus, and is as follows:

Lord, source of eternal life and truth,
give to your shepherd, Benedict, a spirit
of courage and right judgment, a spirit
of knowledge and love. By governing
with fidelity those entrusted to his care,
may he, as successor to the Apostle
Peter and Vicar of Christ, build your
Church into a sacrament of unity, love
and peace for all the world. Amen.
V/ Let us pray for Benedict, the pope.
R/ May the Lord preserve him,
give him a long life,
make him blessed upon the earth,
and not hand him over
to the power of his enemies.
V/ May your hand
be upon your holy servant.
R/ And upon your son,
whom you have anointed.
Our Father? Hail Mary? Glory Be?

I would encourage any priest or deacon or pastoral administrator who may be reading this to include it as a prayer for the faithful to be said before Mass begins or after Mass ends. What good is our love for the Pope if we don’t act on it in a public and undeniable way?

Fr. Kellner read that at the end of mass at MOS on Saturday evening. I was pleasantly surprised. This was after the absolutely strangest profession of faith I've ever heard that was read after the homily. It talked about "having an open mind" and "respecting natural resources" and such as that.. I asked the deacon after mass, and he said it was in the book as one of the choices. I couldn't find anything about that after Googling quite a bit.
