The Democrat & Chronicle today reports that the closing date for Our Lady of Mercy has been set by the Diocese of Rochester. According to the article, the church will close down for good on June 30th of this year, but will hold their final Sunday Mass a few days before on June 27th. This announcement has long been expected given Mercy’s sharp decline in both attendance and collections over the decade. Holy Name of Jesus, which is located not too far away, also has experienced significant declines, though they are not in quite as bad financial situation as Mercy. The article reports that the bishop signed the decree to close the parish on February 22nd.
Our prayers for the people of Our Lady of Mercy.

Sorry folks…that picture reminds me of the Three Stooges. I'll burn for that one. Ditch the blue stole on the vestment. It's not an approved liturgical color in the US.
But rainbow is, right?
I think I saw that in the diocesan norms . . .
How soon our infamous bishop forgets that the parishioners spent 1.5 million dollars for the renovation of Our Lady of Mercy parish.
Shame on Bishop Clark.
Renovations make a property more marketable for sale, do they not?
No, not always. If it is sold to someone that is not going to use it as a Catholic church, they must spend money to remodel it for their use.
Does anyone in charge of our diocese know what he/she is doing (besides alienating the faithful)? We have to hang together and wait for better days.
THATS ABOUT IT
