From the RIT Newman Web site:

“We now have subscriptions to America, U.S. Catholic, and One. They are found on the table in the center of the Religious Life office. Please do not remove them from the Center. The articles are readable and deal with current American Catholic issues. The purpose of the subscriptions is to help Newman students become aware of our continuing intellectual tradition.”

I’d say the purpose is to indoctrinate these students with the progressive theology. America, and especially U.S. Catholic, are very progressive publications. U.S. Catholic, for example, contains articles promoting homosexual marriage and women’s ordination. And of course, they are opposed to any and all things traditional.
