Various news sources, including the National Catholic Register and the Telegraph, are reporting that the Traditional Anglican Communion’s (TAC) Great Britain province has decided to accept the Pope’s offer for reunion with the Roman Catholic Church. The members of the province voted unanimously to accept the offer of a personal ordinariate that allows traditional Anglicans to hold on to their traditions and bishops who decide to return to the Church.
Below is the resolution passed by TAC members in Great Britain:
“That this Assembly, representing the Traditional Anglican Communion in Great Britain, offers its joyful thanks to Pope Benedict XVI for his forthcoming Apostolic Constitution allowing the corporate reunion of Anglicans with the Holy See, and requests the Primate and College of Bishops of the Traditional Anglican Communion to take the steps necessary to implement this Constitution.
That this Assembly is of the respectful opinion that Bishop Robert Mercer CR might be considered for the position of Ordinary in Great Britain.”
This is truly amazing news, especially considering that Great Britain is the birthplace of Anglicanism. More members are likely to come aboard in the coming weeks and months. God bless Pope Benedict XVI, and welcome home to our Anglican brethren!
