Defending Truth and Tradition in the Roman Catholic Church

The “Conservative Bible”

October 7th, 2009, Promulgated by Dr. K

I can’t believe this is true, but apparently it is. The conservative wiki-style Web site entitled “Conservapedia” has taken on the project of re-translating the Bible from a conservative perspective. These people, for whatever reason I do not know, have taken it upon themselves to alter the word of God to suit their own desires. This is no different than the liberal groups who wish to create gender-neutral Bibles. This is God’s word, it is not something to be changed to please any passing whim. Leave the translating to expert theologians, and keep your hands off of the Holy Bible.

An example translation: John 1:1 from the King James Bible (not the best translation to begin with) is “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.” The “Conservative Bible” changes this verse to: “In the beginning was Truth, and the Truth was with God, and the Truth was God.”

Why do people come up with these ideas?
