Congolese Music at the Tridentine Latin Mass

August 25th, 2009, Promulgated by Choir

The Missa Luba is a based on the Tridentine Latin Mass using traditional Congolese songs. The arrangement was by Franciscan Father Guido Haazen from Belgium. This is the Kyrie section. Kyrie is actually Greek; not Latin. This is not your typical European styled Catholic Mass music. This is something quite different, but nonetheless was used as the music for the celebration of the Tridentine Latin Mass.

  1. Ben Anderson says:

Very interesting. My Grandparents were missionaries (protestant) in the Congo in the 40s. And my Father was actually born there. They were shortly after evacuated when the country broke out in civil war.

  2. Ben, that is interesting. Can you write more about it? Give us a little history about them. I will be posting the other ordinary parts of the Mass.
