One week from today on August 12th, 2009, Archbishop Daniel Edward Pilarczyk of the Archdiocese of Cincinnati will celebrate his 75th birthday. According to Canon 401 of the Code of Canon Law, all bishops are required to submit their resignation to the Holy See once they have reached this milestone. Archbishop Pilarczyk’s successor has already been selected in coadjutor Bishop Dennis Schnurr. Bishop Schnurr will take the reigns in Cincinnati as soon as the current bishop retires.
Archbishop Pilarcyzyk, ordained to the episcopacy in 1974, was one of the many recommendations of the recently deceased Archbishop Jean Jadot, a very progressive prelate and former apostolic delegate to the United States who from May 23, 1974 to June 27, 1980 shamelessly recommended a number of “pastoral” bishops. Jadot’s selections have come to be known as “Jadot’s Boys”, and many of these men have been engulfed in controversy which led to a handful of early resignations. Rochester’s own Bishop Matthew Clark is one of the last remaining members of Club Jadot still in power. Thus comes the inspiration for a new feature at Cleansing Fire: Club Jadot Watch.
Club Jadot Watch will appear whenever a Jadot appointment reaches retirement age, or steps down for whatever reason. The Jadot bishops have done significant damage to our Church, especially in America. Thankfully the end is in sight, as the last Jadot bishop to turn 75 will do so in 2013. Below is the list of the remaining members of Club Jadot in active diocesan service as chief shepherds. A few of his better recommendations are serving beyond the retirement age, while the more troublesome members are quickly approaching the end of their tenures.
Serving past retirement age:
- John Michael D’Arcy – Age 76.96 – Diocese of Fort Wayne-South Bend
- Raymundo Joseph Pe?a – Age 75.46 – Diocese of Brownsville
- William Stephen Skylstad – Age 75.42 – Diocese of Spokane
Retires in 2009:
- [Turns 75 – August 12th] Daniel Edward Pilarczyk – Age 74.98 – Archdiocese of Cincinnati
- [Turns 75 – August 31st] Eusebius Joseph Beltran – Age 74.93 – Archdiocese of Oklahoma City
Retires in 2011:
- Roger Michael Card. Mahony – Age 73.44 – Archdiocese of Los Angeles
Retires in 2012:
- Matthew Harvey Clark – Age 72.05 – Diocese of Rochester
Retires in 2013:
- Howard James Hubbard – Age 70.76 – Diocese of Albany
In seven days, Club Jadot will shrink down to seven members. Good.

Wow, I just looked up the name "Jadot's Boys" in the Diocese of Rochester's Dictionary and it said "a few of them are a bunch of dirty pigs".
Some of the "Jadot Boys" are known more for their advocacy of homosexual rights and their protection of pederast priests.

Note to Mom: I won't be home for lunch today. I will be down at the church for confession.
Dear Anon 9:08…what is the Diocese of Rochester's Dictionary? I've never heard of it. Can you help explain?
The trosch link goes to an article written by Paul Likoudis who is a native of the DoR. He is down in Montour Falls, I believe.
See you in the confession line.
"Club Jadot" sounds like an Agatha Christie novel. lol
"Some of the "Jadot Boys" are known more for their advocacy of homosexual rights and their protection of pederast priests."
I wonder who might have done that, given his gay Mass and shuffling of pedophile priests to office jobs.

Is it 2012 yet?!
Not all of Jadot's appointments have turned out to be clunkers.
Bishop D'Arcy of the Diocese of Fort Wayne-South Bend is the guy who took the lead in standing up to Fr. Jenkins at Notre Dame over the conferring of an honorary degree on our current president, ultimately boycotting the commencement ceremony.
He has also publicly stood up for Church teaching on homosexuality, chastising ND for holding a "Queer Film Festival" followed one week later by a presentation of the "Vagina Monologues."
It just goes to show that even a blind squirrel can still find an occasional acorn.
That is true. Bishop D'Arcy also recently mandated that tabernacles return to the center of churches where possible: see post.
The ones serving past retirement are the better of Jadot's recommendations.
