Defending Truth and Tradition in the Roman Catholic Church

A Hand-Clapping, Foot-Stomping Good Time

August 5th, 2009, Promulgated by Dr. K

Various bulletins this week indicate that Bishop Clark will be offering a “Charismatic Mass” on August 19th at 7 PM. The Mass will take place at the St. Joseph Motherhouse on French Road (interesting location…). If you enjoy bounciness in your worship, and the potential for several liturgical abuses and unnecessary additions/innovations to the liturgy, this Mass is for you. If you’re a Cleansing Fire reader or a person who enjoys reverent worship, then you’ll probably want to stay home that night or seek out a different Mass.

Is this where people fall on the floor and start speaking in tongues?

I can envision how this Mass will go down: terrible rock music, hand clapping, liturgical dancing, ballerinas waving banners and ribbons, incense bowls, and lay homilies.

This sounds like it will be a DoR dissidents' convention.

  3. All of us who have our Cleansing Fire t-shirts should show up.

Those people who say Bishop Clark is really trying to destroy the Catholic Church are sounding more and more like prophets to me. The Bish is good at holding joke Masses like this one, the rainbow sash Mass, and African Masses. Yet he won't celebrate a Latin Mass. Hmm.

    I Will bring my bong.

  6. OTH, one or two of us could go attend as spies and try to pick up some information. Who knows what you might pick up. Plus, we will probably get something to eat afterwards and can chat with some of the attendees. Who knows what that could bring.

    Free food!!!!

To offer a Charismatic Mass that is within Church norms is a very tight rope to walk. Given Bishop Clark's history with liturgical abuses, I don't expect he'll be able to walk it, much less a straight line.

St. Joseph's Mother House.. oh, the irony! The Vatican visitation should occur that night.
