The USCCB reports progress in the lengthy process of revising the English language translation of the Roman Missal. Four parts of the Missal which had failed to achieve the necessary 163 votes (or a 2/3rds majority of Latin rite bishops) in the June general assembly of the USCCB have finally passed after counting mail votes by bishops who were not present at the June conference. The most recently approved translations include: Order of Mass II, Masses and Prayers for Various Needs and Intentions, Rituals for Votive Masses and Masses for the Dead, and the Ritual Masses text. There are still four parts of the Missal which have yet to be approved. The following will be be debated by the USCCB this fall: Proper of Saints, the Commons, U.S. Adaptations for the Roman Missal, and the Roman Missal Supplement. After this has been completed, the recognito of the Holy See will be necessary for the Missal to move towards being put into use.
