Defending Truth and Tradition in the Roman Catholic Church

“I’m a Catholic. In Case of Emergency . . .”

July 6th, 2009, Promulgated by Gen

” . . . contact a priest.”

Or so the traditional medal/prayer card/visor pin says. In talking with a Basilian today, I found out there’s a little edit which is popular in Rochester. Evidently he used to be a Basilian there, but left because of the politics under Clark. He told me thus:

“I’m a Catholic priest. In case of emergency, contact a bishop, but not this bishop, another one.”

Being old enough to have earned the right to call myself a curmudgeon*, I can remember the days when Rochester had dozens of orthodox Basilian priests, primarily teaching at either Aquinas or St. John Fisher.

It's nice to know there's still at least one of that breed left.

I hope to see the day when we once again have numerous orthodox teaching Basilians serving our diocese, that is if we have any Catholics schools in our are in the future.
