Defending Truth and Tradition in the Roman Catholic Church

New Translation Segment on Channel 8

November 3rd, 2011, Promulgated by b a

A facebook friend of mine posted this comment on the preview of an upcoming news segment on Channel 8 regarding the new translation of the mass (you have to click this link to see the video):

Anyone else going to watch Msgr. William Shannon whine and complain (once more) about the Catholic Church tomorrow on channel 8? This time around, the “enlightened one” grumbles about the new translation of the Roman Missal.

For the unaware, Msgr. Shannon has during his eventful existence protested Humanae Vitae, made curious comments about the historicity of the Resurrection, and dissented from the Church’s teachings about homosexuality.

Both Fr. Kennedy and Msgr. Shannon are supporters of the anti-Catholic organization Fortunate Families

  1. Dr. K says:

Fun fact: CBS interviewed two priests as part of its feature on the new translation of the Roman Missal. Of the two priests interviewed, 100% signed the petition “What if we just said wait?”

Below is a list of the priest signers, which includes both Shannon and Kennedy:

Jim M. here: Is Msgr. Shannon still around? I thought that he was pretty elderly by now….in fact, I thought that he might be deceased. If he’s still around, does anyone know what parish he is in?

I find it interesting that there has been preparation in DOR for the changes coming First Sunday of Advent. So many of our priests have played fast and loose with the Liturgy that it just seems odd that all of this preparation has taken place when more likely than not many priests will just say what they want to say.

It has been quite a challenge to participate fully in the Liturgy of the Eucharist when I never know whether a word here or there will be changed and substituted with another or just plain deleted.

Frankly, I just had to go up to the presiding celebrant after mass recently and express how it hurts me to hear him change the words of institution during the consecration. Usually this same priest says

“the blood of the new and eternal covenant,
which will be poured out for you and for all
    for forgiveness and peace.
Do this in memory of me.”

On the particular Sunday I spoke to him about changing the words, he never even mentioned
forgiveness of sins, he only said “the blood of the new and eternal covenant, which will be poured out for you and for all for unity and peace.”

I was astounded and hurt deeply. I just could not resist so I spoke out loud saying:
FOR THE FORGIVENESS OF SINS… Someone in the music ensemble heard it and told me after mass.

During the exchange of the sign of peace I went up to him and whispered in his ear FOR THE FORGIVENESS OF SINS. Then of course, as I stated above I talked with him after mass.

Or how much I need to hear the priest say

“Take this, all of you, and drink from it:
for this is the chalice of my blood,
the blood of the new and eternal covenant.
which will be poured out for you and for many
for the forgiveness of sins .
Do this in memory of me.”

So prepare away priests of DOR. We are listening.

See this link to realize that SSPX still does not accept the teachings of Vatican II
and that the pope is not affirming the right for catholics to question or disagree with
    the texts of Vatican II.

In effect, SSPX has a ways to go to be reconciled with the Catholic Church.

Yes, I can confirm that Msgr. Shannon is still at the SSJ Motherhouse. He has not been well enough to say Mass recently. There are other priests who do say Mass there, elderly but able to do so. Some attend and extend their hands at the consecration and wear a stole, others watch on the closed circuit TV from their rooms. Msgr. (when he was presiding) certainly seemed pro-ordination of women. Sometimes one of the sisters does the homily (always disappointing to me when that happens). They all do the words of the Great Amen in unison with the priest. I don’t know if they have any special dispensations.

  6. Richard Thomas says:

He’s going to meet God soon. Pray for him.

  7. Raymond F. Rice says:

Please note that Father Paul Ryan, who is on the list, resigned from his pastorate for health reasons a few years ago and the DOR told the faithful that, due to health failure, could not serve in any spiritual capacity as a retired priest. However he still owns, maintains, and teaches at his scuba diving school, and appears periodically on television with his wife, advertising some kind of energy program for home windows. He is also the full time director of the LEGACY adult living community in Henrietta. So much for DOR credibility!!!

PS: much more lucrative than shaving poodles in DOB!!!
