Catholic Courses with a Rochester Seminarian

January 2nd, 2011, Promulgated by Dr. K

Diocese of Rochester seminarian and well-learned Catholic, David Tedesche, will be conducting two series of courses on Catholicism at St. Charles Borromeo church in Greece (the site of his pastoral year assignment).

1. Roman Missal course

This eight-week course will help all interested Catholics learn more about the upcoming new translation of the Roman Missal. As part of this course, participants will study the original Latin texts of the Missal, and compare this with the present translation and the one that we will use beginning next Advent. There will be a discussion of the different methods of translation behind the present and upcoming English translation.

The first session will take place Monday, January 17th at 7 PM in Room #28 of the St. Charles Borromeo school building (the former church behind the newer one).

2. Church Fathers course

This is a continuation of a course that David offered this past Fall. In this eight-week course, participants will study the writings of the Church Fathers from the third through fifth centuries. Among those who will be studied are: Tertullian, Origen, St. Cyprian, St. Augustine, and St. Athanasius. Monasticism will also be studied, as well as the first four ecumenical councils. This is sure to be a very educational series of classes.

The first session will take place Wednesday, January 19th from 7-8:30 PM in Room #28 of the school building [see above].

Before attending either of these courses, it is recommended that you register by contacting Mr. Tedesche at dtedesche@dor.org or by calling 585-663-3230 (ext. 103). Registration is not required, so don’t feel that you can’t attend if you forget to contact him ahead of time.

We heard good things about his courses this past Fall, so be sure to attend and show your support for one of our seminarians.

I had the pleasure of attending David’s Church Fathers classes last fall. I highly recommend his classes for any adult or serious teen that wishes to further their understanding of Church history. David is brilliant and brings to life the early life of the Church in a way that is simply amazing. He is a real treasure. You don’t want to miss his courses this year!
